La Traviata on tour in Devon:
21/23/24/27/31 July 2010
NDO’s choice this year almost needs no introduction. La Traviata is a timeless classic of love and heartbreak, with every ravishing aria, ensemble and chorus emerging from Verdi’s pen as some of the finest he wrote. The wonderful orchestral score will again be in the hands of NDO’s nineteen musicians under the baton of conductor Dr Paul Foster. Director is Martyn Harrison and the international cast includes:
Sarah Helsby Hughes as the consumptive courtesan Violetta;
Australian tenor Ben Kerslake as her passionate lover, Alfredo - and
Bruce Graham as Germont Père.

NDO is delighted that Geraint Dodd (Cavaradossi in our 2007 ‘TOSCA’) will be reprising that role in the Welsh National Opera production on April 7/9 at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth. We are also very pleased to see that Carthaig Quill, one of our 2007 JCOP singers, is singing Spoletta in the same production. Ben Bevan – another 2007 JCOP singer – is currently on tour with Scottish Opera as Marcello in La Bohème. NDO wishes them all the very best.
Arts & Business Cultural Champions
NDO’s two A&B Cultural Champions, Graham Wood (NDO ‘Friend’) and Graham Greetham (SENSE Devon Branch) pictured with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Ben Bradshaw (also NDO Chairman Linda Hughes and Arts & Business CEO Colin Tweedy) at an awards ceremony at Exeter Cathedral Chapterhouse on 11 December 2009.

The award recognises the huge contribution made by volunteers to arts charities.
Princess Anne opens SENSE’s Cafe 55 in Exeter, Devon
Linda Hughes was privileged to be the guest of SENSE, NDO’s charity partners, when the Princess Royal opened Cafe 55 in SENSE’s new DayCentre in Exeter on 26 February 2010.
Audience contributions from the summer operas at Ugbrooke over the past five years have helped to refurbish the building and provide specialist equipment for the deafblind and those with multiple sensory deprivation.
